Vossloh gains DB approval
Vossloh has received user approval from DB Infrago for its 'Soniq rail explorer', a mobile ultrasonic inspection device now cleared for deployment on the German rail network. The approval follows a conformity certificate already issued by DB Systemtechnik. Developed with Fraunhofer IKTS, the system detects internal rail defects, corrosion at the rail foot and weld irregularities in a single pass. It is particularly suited for follow-up checks and routine inspections on short sections, turnouts, crossings and stations.
Already in use for three years with railways in Europe and Asia, the device aims to set new standards in mobile ultrasonic testing. Results are displayed in real time through A and B-scans, combined with camera images if required. Data can be transferred via USB, SD card or wirelessly over LTE or wifi. (js)
