Rethinking storage
In many warehouses, layouts have evolved over time through ad hoc decisions, often leading to inefficient material flows as sysmat GmbH reported in a press release. Furthermore, randomly placed racks, intersecting transport routes and narrow aisles can slow down operations. "Even advanced conveyor systems or warehouse management systems can’t perform optimally if the physical structure isn’t aligned with them," stated Rainer Schulz, Managing Director of sysmat.
Involving employees in layout optimisation is key, Schulz says, as they best understand daily workflows and help ensure acceptance. "Implementation reduces the energy consumption of transport vehicles, improves visibility and makes it easier to train new employees," stated Schulz. (js)
