Ten European rail associations have jointly called for a stronger 'Connecting Europe Facility' (CEF) to ensure sufficient funding for transport infrastructure and strengthen EU competitiveness and security. In their joint position paper, the signatories – representing passenger and freight operators, infrastructure and terminal managers, rolling stock lessors and suppliers – welcomed the European Commission’s proposal to continue CEF as part of the 2028–2034 multiannual financial framework.

The proposal allocates EUR 45.7 billion, including EUR 15.7 billion for military mobility, but EUR 1 billion less for CEF Transport compared to the current period. "The rail sector welcomes the positive signal that the European Commission has sent with its proposal," stated the associations in the position paper. (js)
