The USD 111.1 million will fund nearly 40 projects to modernise freight lines, freight yards and port facilities to enhance the safety and resiliency of cargo corridors in New York state. It will also help advance New York's climate goals, as railfreight has proven to be one of the most fuel-efficient methods for moving commerce.

A single freight train removes several hundred trucks from the road, mitigating congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, the government said. The projects also include track and bridge rehabilitation, capacity expansion and the procurement of cleaner rail equipment. (ben)
