MOL starts biofuel voyage

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has started the first biofuel-powered voyage of its capesize bulk carrier 'Lambert Maru', chartered to Anglo American. The vessel bunkered in Singapore on 14 September with a B30 blend of biodiesel, containing 30% biomass from sources such as used cooking oil according to the company. MOL said the fuel is expected to cut CO₂ emissions by about 30% compared with conventional fuels.

The voyage is part of MOL’s 'blue action net-zero alliance' carbon inset programme, which digitally certifies greenhouse gas reduction values. These can be allocated to Anglo American for Scope 3 reporting and disclosure. (js)
