Maritime Transport has secured the contract to operate the new West Midlands Interchange’s strategic railfreight interchange (SRFI) on the West Coast Mainline, UK. The transport company recently signed a long-term agreement with Oxford Properties and Logistics Capital Partners (LCP) to this effect. The GBP 1 billion (EUR 1.17 billion) SRFI will be the UK’s largest intermodal logistics site.

The long-term contract with WMI is in keeping with its wider strategy of decarbonising the full load supply chain by moving cargo closer to the end user by rail, Maritime said. It has already increased container movements by rail, from 6% in 2019 to over 24% in 2023. (ben)
