FedEx Express is marking 40 years since the launch of its first scheduled trans-Atlantic flights on 15 June 1985, connecting New York, London and Brussels with a fleet of Boeing B727s.

What began with seven aircraft has evolved into a global air and ground network linking over 220 countries. In Europe alone, FedEx now operates two air hubs, 27 road hubs and over 550 stations, handling 2 million packages daily. Its next-day delivery service connects 90% of Europe to most major US business centres.

Regional president Wouter Roels noted the continuing importance of reliable cross-border shipping, especially for e-commerce. FedEx now enables over 17 million shipments each day, powered by 500,000 employees and a commitment to global connectivity. (ah)
