Fast ‘Carolina Connector’ rail service launched

In the USA, class I railway CSX and Georgia Port Authority (GPA) have introduced a direct rail connection between the Port of Savannah and Rocky Mount, North Carolina via the CSX Carolina Connector (CCX) Intermodal Terminal.

The new service provides seven weekly rail departures between GPA’s Mason Mega Rail Terminal in Savannah and the Eastern North Carolina location, with a ship-to-shore transit time of three days. Farmers in North Carolina export major agricultural goods such as cotton and forest products.

The new train offers a shorter journey than routes to mid-Atlantic ports, reducing trucking costs and carbon emissions by 78% compared to an all-truck haul. (ben)
