Equal opportunities for railfreight

In a two-pager memorandum, the Belgian railfreight carrier Lineas has outlined the key strategies and actions that are required to improve the competitiveness of the railfreight sector and promote the shift from road to rail.

In addition to infrastructure investments and the promotion of multimodal services, Lineas calls for a reduction in the support for road haulage and a reallocation of the efforts to rail infrastructure and safety projects, such as ERTMS.

The carrier demands more competitive fairness by addressing the distortion of competition by state-owned competitors and stopping (illegal) state aid. Lineas adds that there must be reciprocity in access to essential facilities in Europe such as shunting yards. (ben)
