Enhanced cross-border rail interoperability

The European Commission has approved a EUR 8 million Slovenian scheme to encourage freight transport to shift from road to rail and remove barriers to interoperability. Under this scheme, railfreight companies will receive direct grants to finance the integration of the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 into existing rolling stock.
The ETCS is the signalling and control component of the European rail traffic management system (ERTMS). The implementation of ERTMS helps to enhance cross-border rail interoperability and make rail transport more competitive. (ben)
