Bifa urges UK government to align with EC

The British International Freight Association (BIFA) calls on the UK government to align with the European Commission's decision not to extend the Consortia Block Exemption Regulation (CBER).

BIFA recommends introducing an ombudsman for container market disputes and emphasises the importance of maintaining a balance between shipping lines and customers.

The association says that it is suprised about the competition and markets authority's (CMA) provisional support for extending a modified CBER and supports the European Commission's approach for fair competition in the shipping industry.

In light of concerns about practices distorting the free market to the detriment of international trade, Bifa advocates ensuring that shipping lines are subject to competition law. (pb)
