Wärtsilä technology to reduce emissions

Wärtsilä will supply engines, a fuel gas supply system, and thrusters for two new ro-pax ferries that are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard for La Méridionale, a subsidiary of CMA CGM. These ferries, which are designed to minimise emissions, will operate between Marseille and Corsica.

Wärtsilä's Next DF technology, implemented in its 31DF engines, will use LNG as the primary fuel and reduce methane and nitrogen oxide emissions. The ferries will also be prepared for future use of biogas and synthetic methane. Each ferry will have a 180 m length, accommodating 1,000 passengers and cargo freight.

Wärtsilä’s equipment is scheduled to be delivered in mid-2025, with the ferries entering service in H1/2027. (pb)
