New businesses in Addis Ababa and Kuala Lumpur

After months of negotiation, Maskargo welcomed its new business partner Ethiopian Airlines at Kuala Lumpur airport earlier this month. The weekly B777F service offers an 80 t payload on the route Brussels-Dubai-Kuala Lumpur-Brussels. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the launch was low key minus the usual pomp accorded to a first flight.

In response to the pandemic, Ethiopian is also deploying its cargo capacity at its Addis Ababa hub, where the "pharma wing" (54,000 sqm) of Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, housed within the largest trans-shipment terminal in Africa, is central to the effective handling and shipping of medical supplies. Currently, the company is transporting an average 1,400 t of temperature-sensitive healthcare products per month.  (ah)
