LNG trucks for food deliveries around Berlin

The commercial vehicle manufacturer Scania is to deliver 100 liquefied gas-powered trucks to the Danish forwarder KP Logistik. The company will evenly split the Scania R 410 tractor units between its centres in Stavenhagen and Wustermark, near Berlin (both Germany).

The trucks will be used for deliveries of dry, refrigerated and frozen foods, primarily to retailers Netto’s and Norma’s stores in eastern Germany, including Berlin.

Carbon emissions from natural gas trucks are lower than from diesel-fuelled vehicles. Emissions can be further reduced by up to 90% through the use of biogas. The new Scania trucks will be operated in KP Logistik's fleet for four to five years. During that time each vehicle cover up to 800,000 km. (ben)
