Iraq enables TIR trade route

Simon Trucks has successfully completed a TIR transport from Romania to Jordan, cutting delivery time from eight weeks to five days, as the IRU recently reported. The route passed through Bulgaria, Turkey and Iraq, where the 'TIR transit system' became operational in April 2025.
Simon Abo Leil, owner of Simon Trucks, highlighted the positive impact on bilateral trade between Europe and the Middle East. The IRU’s senior adviser for the Middle East and North Africa, Rami Karout, confirmed that Iraq’s TIR adoption enhances cross-border trade efficiency. "This new overland route will transform trade between Europe and the Middle East", he added. (js)
