Growing intermodal options within Asean region

Nippon Express has conducted railfreight transport trials between Kuala Lumpur and Padang Besar in Malaysia using trains running on Malaysian rail lines. The aim is to establish cross-border railfreight forwarding services linking up points within the Asean region, the group said.

Nippon has already developed an "SS7000" overland transport service that connects Shanghai to Singapore over a distance of 7,000 km, and it offers regular consolidated trucking services.

In April 2022, the group also launched a new intermodal transport service linking up Asean and neighbouring countries via international railways running between China and Laos. (ben)
