According to Sea-Intelligence, the container shipping market is grappling with overcapacity, with 2023 and 2024 expected to see significant excess.

 

Optimistic scenarios suggest potential rebalancing by 2028, but uncertainties around factors like demand, supply and structural elements could delay this until 2030 or later.

 

In 2024, the market is likely to experience the worst overcapacity, with approximately one-third absorbed by 2026. The timeline for achieving balance hinges on various variables within the shipping industry. (pb)
