Croatia's Rijeka Gateway has begun full operations with the arrival of its first commercial vessel, the 'Al Jasrah', and the entry of its first truck. The EUR 380 million joint venture between APM Terminals and Enna group features 400 m of quay, 20 m depth and annual capacity of 650,000 teu in phase one, with expansion planned beyond one million teu. Equipped with cranes, automation and renewable energy systems, the terminal sets new benchmarks for efficiency and sustainability according to APM Terminals.

The 'Al Jasrah', arriving from Port Said on the Asia–Europe route, puts Rijeka on the map of the Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. CEO Peter Corfitsen said the terminal symbolises Rijeka’s role as a modern and sustainable port, supported by 250 expert employees. Up to 60% of volumes are expected to move by rail, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity. (js)
