Egypt to host new green methanol facility

AD Ports Group, Transmar, and Orascom Construction have signed an MOU to develop a green methanol storage and export facility in Egypt. Green methanol, a synthetic fuel produced from renewable sources such as green hydrogen, offers a clean alternative to fossil fuels with fewer emissions and easier storage and transport.

The new facility will provide bunkering solutions for methanol-powered vessels. Industry forecasts predict a significant increase in methanol-fuelled ships by 2026. The project supports the International Maritime Organisation’s goal of decarbonising international shipping by 2050, with global demand for green methanol expected to rise significantly in the coming years.
