Wärtsilä's ammonia solution

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has introduced an ammonia fuel supply system (AFSS) for ships. Ammonia is considered a promising fuel for reducing CO2 emissions and almost eliminating sulphur oxide (SOx), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and particulate matter (PM) emissions.

The AFSS, suitable for newbuilds and retrofits, can be integrated into ships carrying liquefied gas or installed as a standalone system on vessels with low or high-pressure systems. The first AFSS will be installed on two new gas carriers for Exmar LPG, making them the first ocean-going vessels with dual-fuel engines capable of using ammonia. (pb)
