Transfollow: eCMR gains wider acceptance
Transfollow has analysed the current uptake of the electronic consignment note (eCMR) in Europe, reporting steady growth in adoption among shippers and carriers. To date, 38 states have ratified or acceded to the UN eCMR protocol, giving digital consignment notes the same legal value as paper versions. Benefits include real-time traceability, faster invoicing and reduced paper use.
"Since 2023 we’ve seen a sharp rise in demand, especially from shippers leading digitalisation," said Hans Lip, COO at Transfollow. According to the company early-adopting markets such as France, the Netherlands and Spain have already integrated eCMR widely. Spain will mandate its use from 2026, while the EU’s 'eFTI' regulation will require digital access to transport data for authorities from mid-2027. (js)
