Swiss forwarder pioneers autonomous driving

The first autonomous driving commercial vehicle (CV) is now navigating the streets of the Swiss capital, Bern. In their joint project, the transport specialist Planzer and the technology expert Loxo aim to achieve full L4 driving autonomy, meaning operating a truck without a driver in the vehicle.

During the two-year pilot phase in the city of Bern, Loxo’s system will navigate a CV, several times a day, from the Planzer railway centre to various strategic logistic points in Bern's city centre.

There, the parcels will be reloaded onto small electric vehicles and delivered to the end customers. In Switzerland, a new regulation governing automated driving (AFV) is expected to take effect in spring 2025. (ben)
