NYK affiliates have inked a long-term time-charter contract with Qatar Energy. Seven liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers will be deployed for the state-run energy company.

The shipbuilding contracts for the LNG carriers with a capacity of 174,000 cbm each go to the South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Qatar Energy is a major LNG producer in need of maritime transport for exportation. NYK has been engaged in this business during the past 39 years since the delivery of the LNG carrier “Echigo Maru” in 1983. The vessels will have an overall length of approximately 299.00 m, a width of 46.40 m and a maximum speed of 19.5 knots. (sh)
