Port of Vienna puts trailers on trains

After one year of testing, the new rail service for the transport of non-craneable trainers between the port of Vienna (Austria) and Düsseldorf (Germany) has officially started with three round trips per week.

The trains use Helrom's horizontal Swivel technology, which is already integrated into the wagons. Trailers can be transferred directly between rail wagons and truck tractors without expensive equipment. During the trials, 3,500 trailers were transhipped in Vienna Freudneau and more than 1,000 t of CO2 saved. Currently, 90% of trailers in Europe cannot be shifted from road to rail for technical reasons. (ben)
