New line under construction in Poland
Construction has begun on the first section of Poland’s new railway line under the 'Podłęże–Piekiełko' project, one of the country’s largest rail investments in the south. PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has signed a PLN 1.7 billion (net) contract with a consortium of Budimex, Budimex Kolejnictwo and Gülermak to build the Szczyrzyc–Tymbark section.
The 8 km stretch, due for completion by mid-2029, will include two tunnels, bridges and viaducts, and will connect the new Szczyrzyc station with Tymbark on the upgraded line 104 between Chabówka and Nowy Sącz. Designed for passenger speeds up to 160 km/h and freight up to 120 km/h, the line will feature overhead electrification and a digital control system meeting EU standards according to the company. (js)
