Hydrogen locos to deliver coal

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Teck have entered into a long-term rail agreement to transport steel-making coal from Teck’s four facilities in southeastern British Columbia (Canada). The companies, collaborating to promote green transport corridors and their shared commitment to sustainability, will develop a pilot programme that integrates CPKC’s hydrogen locomotives into Teck’s steel-making coal supply chain.

This effort – testing is set to commence in early 2024 – is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The companies will also work together to increase the resiliency of the Canadian supply chain with investment in infrastructure and technology. (ben)
