From Chengdu to Katowice
Katowice Airport has welcomed its first-ever Boeing 777F from Central Airlines, marking the launch of a new charter cargo route between China and Poland. The connection, operated three to five times weekly on behalf of Chinese e-commerce platforms, further strengthens Poland’s role in Asia–Europe logistics.
Ground handling for the new flights is provided by Welcome Airport Services and Silver Cargo. "Opening up to cargo business is a key part of our sustainable development strategy," the airport stated. "With growing e-commerce volumes, we continue to invest in infrastructure to meet the highest international standards."
Katowice Airport remains Poland’s largest regional cargo hub, forecasting a record 45,000 t of freight in 2025. Between January and September alone, 32,554 t were handled - up 21.4% year on year. Plans are underway for a second cargo terminal by late 2027 - more details in the Poland Special of ITJ 12/2025! (ah)
