In Germany, Stuttgart’s fire department is procuring four new Unimog vehicles for emergency management operations such as fighting forest fires.

One new addition to the fleet is a rescue vehicle based on Unimog U 323 with just 2.20 m width for use on narrow roads in forests and vineyards.

Furthermore, the fire department is acquiring two identical water tenders TLF-W and one rescue vehicle RW-HG based on the all-terrain Unimog 5023.

These four new vehicles can be used to form a tactical unit in combination with two older Unimog, the manufacturer Daimler said. 35 firefighters are currently training on the four new Unimog at the off-road testing grounds in Ötigheim for deployments in extreme off-road conditions. (ben)
