The Swiss government has opened public consultation on the total revision of the freight transport ordinance (GüTV), following parliament’s approval to financially support rail and inland waterway freight transport. The new regulations introduce flat-rate subsidies, including CHF 40 per loaded railcar, with a threshold of 720 wagons per year for siding operations. Annual funding of CHF 50 million will be available. Existing reimbursements for road haulage under combined transport will be phased out.

The government is also aiming to simplify and extend its investment in infrastructure . Up to CHF 180 million will be invested in digital automatic coupling technology. Direct support for wagonload transport and port infrastructure on the Rhine will be governed by performance agreements. The consultation runs until 12 August 2025, with implementation set for 1 January 2026. (js)
