Cosco Shipping has delivered China’s first 16,000 teu methanol dual-fuel containership, the ‘Cosco Shipping Yangpu’.

Built by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou, it is the first vessel of its kind ordered by a Chinese shipowner, built by a Chinese yard and powered by a domestically-produced methanol engine.

The vessel, with an overall length of 366 m and a width of 51 m, has the capacity to carry 16,136 teu. It features advanced methanol technologies, enabling a voyage from East Asia to the US East Coast without refuelling.

Its high rating in the ‘energy efficiency design index’ and with digital systems onboard enables the vessel to set new standards in low-carbon, intelligent shipping, reflecting China’s growing role in green maritime innovation.
