Azur welcomes EU tyre rules
Azur, Germany’s ‘Allianz Zukunft Reifen’, an alliance for the future of tyres, has reported that it welcomes the new EU waste shipment regulations 2024/1157, which restrict exports of end-of-life tyres to non-OECD countries, unless EU environmental standards are met.
From 2027 onwards the regulations are expected to keep up to 800,000 t of used tyres in the EU annually, offering fresh opportunities for tyre recycling.
Each non-OECD importer will require an EU certificate. Azur coordinator Christina Guth said that the move is a key to advancing Europe’s recycling infrastructure and environmental goals. (js)
