ACT sees truck order dip
Figures from ACT research show 'North American Class 8' net orders reached 12,844 units in August, a 21% year-on-year decline. It was the eighth consecutive month of lower orders, with tractor demand particularly weak at 7,493 units, down 34% y/y. "Current tariff and regulatory purgatory continue to sow industry uncertainty," said research analyst Carter Vieth.
'Vocational Class 8' orders rose 7.8% y/y to 5,351 units, though this reflects a low comparison base, with year-to-date volumes still 20% below 2024. Vieth noted that policy fluctuations and softer housing demand continue to impact the vocational segment. 'Medium-duty Classes 5-7' orders fell 24% y/y to 14,613 units, with high inventories, weaker economic outlook and consumer pessimism driving the slowdown according to Vieth. (js)
