Tug enters service
The ice-class tug 'Victoria' has entered service in the port of Luleå (Sweden), marking the first deployment of Steerprop’s 'Contra-Rotating Propeller' (CRP) azimuth propulsors in the tugboat sector.
Built by Damen Shipyards as the first unit of its 'ASD Tug 3413 ICE' class, the vessel is equipped with two Steerprop SP 60 CRP Eco units, each rated at 3,700 kW and with 1A Super ice class certification.
The system uses twin contra-rotating propellers to increase thrust efficiency by up to 17%, and improves manoeuvrability according to Steerprop. Designed to maintain 8 knots through 1.1 m thick floe ice, the tug is tailored for Arctic harbour operations. (js)
