More collaboration in international railfreight traffic: Switzerland and Germany have signed a ministerial declaration concerning access routes to the New Rail Link through the Alps (NEAT) in Switzerland.

The agreement aims to create more capacity for railfreight transport until the Rhine Valley rail corridor between Basel (Switzerland) and Karlsruhe (Germany) is extended to four tracks.

The specific measures in the agreement include smaller infrastructure improvements (e.g at the Offenburg junction in Germany), and railfreight handling improvements, such as changing locomotive crews. (ben)
