Hitachi modernising Hungarian line
Hitachi Rail has completed the digital signalling upgrade on a 60 km railway line between Rákos and Hatvan (Hungary).
The project involved installing ETCS Level 2 electronic interlockings at six stations, 73 new point machines and 23 integrated level crossings. The system enables real-time train monitoring and supports trains running at speeds of up to 160 km/h. AI-based diagnostics monitor point machine performance to enable predictive maintenance.
The line serves both commuter and freight traffic and is now equipped for increased capacity and efficiency. The modernisation supports Hungary’s broader strategy for railway innovation, according to Hannes Boyer, vice-president for main-line signalling at Hitachi Rail. (js)
