Green hub for Amazon in Nagoya
Amazon’s latest fulfilment centre in Nagoya (Japan) uses geothermal technology and vertical solar panels to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency.
The facility, Amazon’s largest on-site solar project outside the USA, will harness underground temperatures for heating and cooling systems. In addition to rooftop and parking-lot solar panels, Amazon has installed panels on south-facing walls to capture more sunlight throughout the day. With 5.5 MW of total capacity, supported by a 2.9 MWh battery, the centre will operate on carbon-free energy even when the sun isn’t shining.
The site aims to achieve ‘zero carbon certification’ in 2026. Amazon’s design addresses space constraints in Japan and reflects its broader strategy to advance sustainable technologies and reduce CO₂ emissions in its global logistics network.
