First SeMS certified ground handler in Asia

Cathay Cargo Terminal has become the first ground handler in Asia to achieve certification under Iata’s ‘Security Management System’ (SeMS), attaining the highest possible tier, ‘operating status’ on its first assessment.
SeMS provides a structured, risk-based framework to manage threats and regulatory compliance. Cathay was commended for its defined security policies, active leadership and regulatory alignment.
“Security is foundational for any airport cargo terminal,” said COO Mark Watts. He noted the role of AI in improving intruder and cargo detection.
The certificate will be formally presented at Iata’s World Cargo Symposium in Dubai on 15 April. Cathay Cargo Terminal also has Iata certification for environmental and dangerous goods training. (ah)
