CN’s network grows in Iowa

Canadian National Railways (CN) has acquired Iowa Northern Railway Company (IANR). The purchase has been approved by the country’s Surface Transportation Board. The short line has three direct class 1 interchanges as well as a short line interchange.

IANR serves 20 grain elevators, two ethanol plants, two mineral processing facilities as well as the Manly terminal, a liquids storage and transloading facility.

The takeover will allow CN to combine IANR’s 280 route kilometres with CN’s 32,200 km network by 13 February. The combined CN-IANR will offer single-line services to better connect grain, fertiliser, renewable fuels and industrial markets to CN’s North American network, the railways said. (ben)
