Cathay debuts fresh lane

Visualisation: Cathay cargo

Cathay cargo has introduced the 'Air-Land Fresh Lane', becoming the first carrier to use the new intermodal channel created by Guangdong and Hong Kong SAR governments. The service aims to enable perishables such as fruit and seafood to move seamlessly from overseas via Hong Kong International Airport across the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao bridge to the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Temperature-controlled trucks equipped with e-lock and GPS carry shipments into Zhuhai, where customs procedures are simplified by a transshipment certificate issued by Hong Kong authorities as the company reported.

This document allows faster clearance under mainland inspection rules and reduces costs for importers. A new cold inspection facility at Zhuhai Port supports checks or sampling of fresh goods. Cathay cargo said the service simplifies booking and shortens transit times into the the GBA, home to more than 86 million people. (js)
