Advancing further with ‘Avance’

Crowley’s fourth ‘Avance’ class vessel, the ‘Torogoz’, has entered commercial service, sailing from Port Everglades FL (USA) to Central America.

Its capacity to carry 1,400 teu, including 300 refrigerated units, makes the LNG-powered ship well-designed for frequent, fast deliveries of goods such as textiles, foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals between the USA and El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Its entry into Crowley’s fleet completes the introduction of the four ‘Avance’ class vessels into the fleet, where it joined the ‘Tiscapa’, the ‘Quetzal’ and the ‘Copán’.

Crowley vice-president Claudia Kattan-Jordan said the ship’s mix of dry and refrigerated cargo capabilities will boost the line’s service reliability.

Named after El Salvador’s national bird, the turquoise-browed motmot, the ‘Torogoz’ reflects Crowley’s six decades of shipping and logistics operations in Central America and the Caribbean, and its ongoing investment in lower-emission, high-capacity regional trade. (gy)
