AD Ports orders two container ships for Caspian trade
AD Ports Group has awarded a contract to Baku Shipyard in Azerbaijan for the construction of two shallow-draft containerships of 780 teu each, designed specifically for operations in the Caspian Sea. The newbuilds, due for delivery in Q4 2027, will boost containerised cargo capacity and strengthen the trans-Caspian logistics corridor linking hubs across the region.
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of AD Ports Group, said the vessels will "deliver greater capacity, improved service reliability, and contribute to the long-term growth of supply chains."
The move follows recent AD Ports projects in Central Asia, including the opening of Georgia’s Tbilisi Intermodal Hub and a UAE-Azerbaijan trade pact. Bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Azerbaijan rose 43% in 2024 to USD 2.24 bn, highlighting growing cargo flows. (ah)
