ACS delivers earthquake aid to Myanmar and Thailand
Air Charter Service (ACS) has arranged several humanitarian charters following last Friday’s 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar.
The epicentre was near Mandalay, but the tremors were felt as far as China and Thailand. With Mandalay’s airport unavailable, ACS is flying aid into Yangon, with onward distribution by smaller aircraft or road. Over the weekend, two flights delivered 40 t of aid to Yangon, and a further aircraft landed in Bangkok on Monday carrying nearly 30 t of medical supplies from the Middle East.
“We received several calls from aid agencies; our teams are working around the clock,” said Ben Dinsdale, ACS’s director for government and humanitarian services. More flights are scheduled for the coming days. (ah)
