A European logistics network turns 30
In 2025 Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA) is celebrating 140 years of operations – and 30 years of strategic partnership with rail subsidiary Metrans. Since its foundation in May 1991, Metrans has evolved into a pan-European logistics network with over 650 weekly train connections, linking North Sea ports to Central and South-Eastern Europe.
With its hub-and-shuttle model and strong intermodal infrastructure, Metrans plays a vital role in HHLA’s ambition to become climate-neutral by 2040. In 2024 alone, Metrans handled 1.1 million TEU under the "HHLA Pure" low-emissions label. Together, HHLA and Metrans continue to shape the future of resilient and sustainable transport in Europe. (ah)
