In 2024 the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) transported 1.4 million t of timber for the enterprise Papierholz Austria by rail, saving nearly 34,000 t of CO₂, as the company has reported.

The partnership with the wood procurement company supports the delivery of roundwood and wood chips to its member plants – Heinzel Pöls, Mondi Frantschach, Sappi Gratkorn and Norske Skog Bruck.

RCG handles around 40,000 railfreight wagons a year for Papierholz Austria. With the impacts of extreme weather increasing, the partnership highlights the role of climate-friendly logistics in building resilient supply chains. The collaboration has grown over 20 years.

"We want to be a strong partner for Papierholz Austria, even in challenging situations," said Christoph Grasl, a member of the management board at RCG. (js)
